The Norwalk Hospital Bariatric Center has one of the first comprehensive programs in Connecticut. It has surpassed the high standards necessary to become a Bariatric Center of Excellence as awarded by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). It is a unique program that has three outstanding, advanced laparoscopic bariatric surgeons who have achieved the recognition of: surgeon of Center of Excellence.
The tremendous success of our patients is a result of our multi disciplinary approach to individualized patient care. This includes participation in our ongoing nutrition counseling, recommended exercise regimen and psycho-social therapy. There are multiple nutritional and therapy oriented support groups from which to choose. Close and frequent visits to the surgeon and physician assistants results has been a secret to our patients’ success.
The Norwalk Hospital’s specialized bariatric team of physicians, nurses, and support staff will work to ensure that we exceed your expectations in providing the highest standards of bariatric care in our specialized units. We have helped over 2,000 patients lose weight and resolve their obesity-related medical conditions through Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and the Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (Lap-Band®) procedures.

The Norwalk Hospital Bariatric Story
The Norwalk Hospital Bariatric Surgery program was first established in 2000. Since that time the program has experienced tremendous growth and improvement in quality. It is now one of the leaders in Bariatric Surgery in Connecticut. It is with great pride that Norwalk Hospital hosts on the three surgeon bariatric group from Fairfield County Bariatrics and Surgical Specialists, P.C. Along with a steady growth in the production of cases, the group has the highest volume of Lap-Band procedures as of January 2007. The Norwalk program has improved its overall quality since its inception in 2002. It was in the fall of 2006 that Norwalk received the coveted award of, “Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery”. “We have seen a steady growth of new patient procedures by 30% at Norwalk Hospital since this time,” says Dr. Neil Floch, Director of Bariatric Surgery at Norwalk. “Our group now performs over 375 bariatric cases a year,” said Dr. Floch; “We have the experience”.

Dr. Floch emphasizes, “What is most significant about our group is for three surgeons to work interchangeably. All surgeons have the ability to provide excellent care for our patients. It is with our surgical experience and diversity of our clinical team that we are able to provide superior care for our patients while maintaining an individual approach that is sensitive to not only surgical care but the nutrition, physical and emotional needs of our patients. At Norwalk Hospital, the Bariatric Surgery Program shows that our commitment is not to begin medical relationships; it is to continue them for a lifetime.”
